One of Roy's most beautiful recordings. You have to be truly in love to understand. Charted at #46 on Billboard Hot 100 in December 1965, #19 on UK Singles chart, #14 in Australia and #2 in Canada. Original Billboard review: "For his second MGM release and follow-up to "Ride Away", this compelling ballad builds into a big production climax aimed at rapid chart action."

"Crawling Back" was also released as a single by Gail Wynters in 1969 and Frank Ifield in 1979 and 1982.

Written by Roy Orbison and Bill Dees.

B-side is "If You Can't Say Something Nice".

This song shows what a powerful and beautiful voice Roy had. He was one of the greatest singer's of the 20th century.

In the early days, Roy was on stage just before the Beatles, who were waiting in the wings to go on, and one of them said "How the fuck are we supposed to follow that?". I think that sums him up, really, doesn't it?

Roy didn't have a "5 octave voice"; that's part of what makes his voice, imho, the greatest voice of the recorded age...how he was able to sing, with the range (broad as it was) he had, effortlessly blending his natural/falsetto voice, to give us these timeless classics is nothing short of a "musical miracle"...the power, versatility of his voice gives an illusion of an exorbitant, multi-octave range, but as Roy himself said: "I don't have that broad of a range, but I make good use of what I have..."

Could you imagine, co-writing this song, and singing it (as Roy did) and not have it go #1?? I think I'd a been in the looney bin!!

It was said that Roy Orbison was one artist that Elvis Presley would never follow on stage. With a 5 octave range, that would be something to follow. That was still some accolade from another great, such as Presley.'Crawling Back' (1965).
