Maybelle played a C chord formation and moved the capo around to play in different keys. A and A flat were common on many songs because it fit Sara's vocal range.

Jordan = Juhr-done in Clinch Mountain English.

Is that a dialect variant on the pronunciation of "Jordan" ? In the UK we say Jawden.

I never tire of listening to the original Carter Family. The sound reaches deep. The pictures are great, but sad in a way. AP was estranged from Sara at the time and it shows in the pictures. As I recall the story, they never got back together.

@Dullborn sounds about like capoed around 4 or 5....she often did songs capoed on 5 and played the C chord formations

Anyone know how Maybelle tuned her guitar for this one...is it standard tuning capoed up or an open?? Thanks..

@Pickinbuddy Because of the attack on the Pearl Harbor the Life Magazine decided not to publish the story and the pictures. But if I'm not mistaken, the Life Magazine published an article in 1991 "The Ballad of A. P. Carter", and I think they also published those pictures. Anyway, the pictures were also uploaded to the internet, so everybody could see them.
