We're not talking about who the better musician is here, (or I'm not). I'm saying Jon is the 'glue' that has held the band together for so long. Few other bands last this long nearly fully intact, let alone still on TOP of the charts. They lost Alec at one point, but that was his own doing. I love Richie. I think he's fantastic. Always positive and smiling, and just rockin' it out. But he has a much greater propensity than Jon to allow emotional/personal issues to compromise the band...

Besides that Richie is the one who told Jon to release Living on a Prayer and believe that it would be a hit, Jon thought that it wouldn't be...Richie can last more than 10 years, but with changing bandmates. Bon Jovi, Led Zeppelin, some other bands do lasted more than 30 years with no or a member changing...but that doesnt mean that they will not success, look at Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Black Sabbath are some of the examples of many changing bandmates but still success

Actually Richie co-wrote most of the songs, so its not Jon's songs...yeah he has the voice but not anymore, the band name Bon Jovi, and image made Jon famous while Richie still has the voice...no, Richie can be success in the 80's, he just needs some patience and good bandmates...Richie is a better musician

In my personal opinion Richie's voice just got better with time, in the 80's it was a little bit harsh (for me at least) when it came to live performance, now he has that awesome bluesy voice

This is very true. But the magic of rock and roll is very image driven. Jon Bon Jovi is renown as a cutie pie with a rugged voice. Female fans are hard wired in their physiology to regard Jon Bon Jovi as the bee's knees. Richie Sambora's look affects a more select following. The man has an imposing physique, some women really dig that. A far greater number like the 'cuddle factor' that Jon offers. You can't argue with raw demographics.

I totally agree with you... Richie is the best backing vocal in the rock and roll history!!!!
