BarerMender no wonder he's my favorite artist then. he didn't even have to play rockabilly for me to love his music

This wouldn't be Don. They didn't go for the western scene on the set, and the dancers would always have a fiddler-Don and maybe Cec MacEachren on duo fiddles. This seems to be an Ontario show with more of a hoedown feel than a down east feel. Interesting post.

@LessIsMoor I suppose the big ears were key to his talent.

Without his long hair to hide them, you can see that Gordon had some big ass ears!

@MreViewer Fifty years ago, this is what was known as rockabilly. What they call rockabilly now was known as rock 'n' roll.

@BarerMender said "I didn't know Gordon Lightfoot did rockabilly"..... Umm, well seeing this is a country ballad how would you?

@meigsman59 you are absolutely right. Gordon should definitely be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I'm going to put that as my facebook status right now.

@idcraw I watched Don's show sometimes when I was a kid. I was surprised to learn some years later that after the show he would take guests and regulars out to a club in his red Bullet 'Bird. I thought, 'this guy's actually kinda cool!'

@bluegrassbarry I think it was called a kinescope.

@BlastFurnaceCanada So true. So sad. He ruined his lower register trying to sound like Dylan and Seeger.

oh that's priceless! where do people get this stuff??? like, somebody had a futuristic VHS recorder in 1957 and kept it all this time and found it and put it up on youtube?

I didn't know Gordon Lightfoot did rockabilly. I'd think I would remember this if it was a hit, but I've never heard it before.
