My father, Marvin "Smoky" Coe, actually wrote this song! Randy insisted that he be listed as a co-writer in order to add this song to the Always & Forever album. Glad everyone likes it!!!

Why I love Randy Travis – This is a longish story… When I was a young Cadet at the Virginia Military Institute I had a wonderful opportunity to march in George H. W. Bush’s inaugural parade (Millard Fillmore Here!). We were still in uniform later that evening at the inaugural ball and some of us were asked to help with security. I drew one of two peach assignments of standing bodyguard for the talent just before they went on stage. There were two entries and two exits on each side of the stage. While one act was performing, the other following act would wait at the opposite entry. Some of the stars that waited with me were very nice and cordial to the fans, and some were not. Perhaps the biggest star on the ticket turned out to be a complete jerk to the fans. I was one of his biggest fans until that evening. I was able to meet and briefly chat with half of the stars as they waited their turn to go on stage. The other half passed in front of me as they exited, but none of them did anything more than wave at the crowd as they made a hasty exit. Randy Travis entered on the opposite side of the stage, and was one of the stars that passed in front of me as he exited. Unlike the other stars, he seemed happy to pause and shake hands with people lining the exit tunnel. A woman leaned over the railing when he was literally halfway down the tunnel and shouted “We Love You Randy!” At that point he turned around came back up the tunnel to make sure he told that woman face to face that he loved her too and stood several minutes talking with her and other fans. It was just a few minutes, but that woman almost certainly has never forgotten the “hour or two” that she spent talking with Randy Travis. He was so down to earth and genuinely kind in his comments to her and the other fans. I shook hands with him (his hands are HUGE!!) but didn’t think to get a picture. I am an African American male who had ZERO interest in country music at a time when Rap music was king and New Jack Swing was just coming into its own. Hard to believe, but I have listened to Randy Travis for all of my adult life now…and I am nearing 50. I hope someday to meet Randy Travis again in person to thank him for a life changing experience. There are a lot of people out there (Black and White) who like me dismissed country music and country music fans as throwbacks to a darker time in American history. One man’s kindness to a fan at an event where other “stars” were carrying themselves like petulant children forced me to see an important truth about people – who you are as a person on the inside will always show through the glitter on the outside – who you truly are trumps everything else whether you like it or not – and there is nothing you can do about it except stay who you are or work to become a better person. I am not White, I am not conservative, but I am a proud Randy Travis fan!!!

Randy Travis is one of the most beautiful souls in the country genre. His music, no matter how old the song, is relevant and speaks to a person's heart and soul. Forever and Ever was my parents' song and they got me started on his music. They didn't last forever, but the wish for a love like that will always last forever for me. I know Randy won't read this comment. If he does though, please know that you helped me to be the person I am today: I work hard, play hard, and love with all I've got!
