I didn't really know them much at all other than what I'd heard in Lynch films...then I moved to Poland and some friends got tickets - we had to travel to Katowice, actually I had to fly back out there - the first show date was canceled because the freaking Russians held them up and their equipment trying to get out of the country - strictest visa control I've ever seen there, anyway Katowice is a special city in Silesia known for music (Penderecki works out of there often, and for industrialism). It was wild there, since I knew a little Polish and women there love Americans, they would melt everywhere we went. They didn't let me have much exposure to the band, figuring I should just meet the spectacle head-on without expectation - seeing it there, in this snowy coal-powered city - a spectacle of musically capable freaks doing something new in an exotic land - an experience you do not ever forget. Unfortunately, they really seemed to form a clear peak with this album (there are earlier ones possibly)- I don't think they've come close to touching it since.
