De Lane Lea demo of Keep Yourself Alive by Queen.

Lyrics:

I was told a million times of all the people in my way

And how I have to keep on trying just get better every day

But if I crossed a million rivers, and I rode a million miles

Then I'd still be where I started, bread and butter for a smile

Well, I sold a million mirrors in a shop in alley way

But I never saw my face in any window any day

Now they say your folks are telling you to be a superstar

But I tell you just be satisfied and stay right where you are

Keep yourself alive, yeah, keep yourself alive

All you people keep yourself alive

Well I loved a million women in a belladonic haze

And I ate a million dinners brought to me on silver trays

Give me everything I need to feed my body and my soul

And I'll grow a little bigger, then that can be my goal

I was told a million times of all the troubles in my way

How I had to keep on trying and get better every day

But if I crossed a million rivers, and I rode a million miles

Then I'd still be where I started, same as when I'd started

Keep yourself alive, yeah, keep yourself alive

Take you all your time and money

Honey you'll survive

Did I

Oh

Keep yourself alive, keep yourself alive, oh

Take you all your time and money

To keep me satisfied

Do you think you're better every day

No, I just think I'm two steps nearer to my grave, yeah

Keep yourself alive, come on, keep yourself alive

All you people keep yourself alive

Keep yourself alive, yes you've gotta keep yourself alive

All you pretty people keep yourself alive

Keep yourself alive, ooh, keep yourself alive

All you people keep yourself alive

Keep yourself alive

I'm just wondering what took more time. Was it the actual concert they performed or was it the time it took for Freddie to get dressed and undressed for the occasion?

Guys, stop talking about Freddie for a moment and appreciate the drum solo! Roger is amazing *-*

The point is that Freddie is singing :P I don't even know where I got the info that John wasn't in the band at this point so I can't really argue with your info :P

John Deacon WAS joined the bad allready. It was recorded at De Lane Lea Studios. Queen has a hardly called "contract" which gave them the installations of De Lane Lea to recoring during the dead hours, from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. or when an artist didn't show up to recording in exchange to show the equipment of the studio to potential clients. So they wait for hours and hours, and so they recorded them 1st album "Queen". (please excuse my poor english)

Yeah, you're right. John was already in Queen in this recording. But you have to know that the comment you answered was written BEFORE the December 2011 release. So it that date wasn't public before. :-)

It says at the iTunes link December 1971.

I love when Freddie says soul.

Wow, this is harder, heavier and WAY BETTER than the final version that ended up on the first album. I don't understand why this one was forsooken, when 'The Night Comes Down', also culled from the DeLane Lea sessions, DID appear on the album.

@winnetouch John Deacon had already joined Queen before they got to record anything. Their first bassist didn't last that long with them. This was probably recorded no earlier than 1972.

For a demo, it was almost album.

Has a "Immigrant Song" kind of feel this version- cool.

@winnetouch I agree his voice was higher and thinner at this time, but he wasn't 8 years old lol. This record is a little bit accelerated, that's why his voice is really thinner.

sounds more organic, less perfect! Equally great as so many other Queen gems! Love them forever!

Apparently this take is Brian's fave version of the song
