@crappybassist96 I didn't say that the Captain, Devo or Roxy were post-punk, I said that they influenced the punks that went on to make post-punk. Wire's first album is certainly punk, but Pink Flag doesn't sound like any of the punk albums from the same year, it's too smart, and Chairs Missing and 154 are considered post-punk classics. Nobody lumps Thomas Dolby in with Magazine, they simply are two different genres. The actual punk scene lasted all of two minutes - blink and you missed it.

@kozmo99 No, genres are debatable. I wouldn't consider Devo, Captain Beefheart, Roxy Music, etc. post-punk, because they predate (and aren't really influenced by) the peak of the punk movement. Wire is on the edge, but I personally wouldn't consider them quintessentially post-punk because their first album is pretty much just punk. But whatever, I'll concede, since you're obviously so hellbent on being right about this. You win youtube!

@crappybassist96 Yeah, history isn't debatable - unless you'd like to rewrite it. As ihatecaptchas1 stated, there were a ton of bands doing it before Pylon. Devo was being arty, weird and confrontational as early as 1972, so, right there you have an American band that was way before Pylon. That is NOT debatable. Captain Beefheart, Roxy Music and Can, who were at there peaks in 1970-1975, paved the way for post-punk and new wave.

@kozmo99 It's certainly debatable, but I wouldn't consider any of the bands you listed post-punk bands. New wave, maybe.

@crappybassist96 I love Pylon, but they weren't the first (or the best) - the first might have been Devo, or Television, or Wire (so much better than Pylon), but not Pylon - not by a mile.

Post-punk...Pylon did it first, and did it best.

Growing up in Atlanta, listening to the "local" bands around, Including Pylon sent me away to college ready to hit the local music scene in Athens. I saw Pylon a dozen times and don't know how they weren't more popular than any other Athens band. I'm just glad that the 40 watt club let me in with my argyle sweaters and penny loafers when that was clearly frowned upon.
