Palace of Fine Arts, San Francisco, october 3, 1991.

2012 brings an early "new testament" show with a brilliantly-playing Matthew Fisher, a seldom heard guitarist (Tim Renwick) and a new Procol Harum band, ready for the decades that would follow, here on my channel!

Back to the classics with the title track of Shine On Brightly, 1968. here with the first version of the intro that the band would go on playing for the following decades.

Notice the Hammond solo, quite close to the original, even if not identical: Fisher would go on changing the first half a lot during the following years. Odd to hear the changed Hammond counterpoint, especially the subtle one in the first verse. I had never heard Fisher playing this song in this same way.

Also notice the absence of the synth that he would start adding the following year.

Brzezicki likes to be more present than B.J. Wilson usually did in the first part of the verses, but his entries are surely a lot less "bombastic".

Inventive but subtle guitar playing, much less prominent than Withehorn Graham or the Trower of the last couple of years.

Dave Bronze bass keeps a lot close to the original version, he might be playing from a score, very different from what matt Pegg would do a few years later. Not than I'm complaining: I find this particular bassline a true highlight in the Procol repertoire and he surely had a lot of songs to learn in very little time anyway.

Sound balance still not perfect at the beginning (the organ is clearly too low in verse 1), more or less fixed at the end.
