Prefab Sprout - Last Of The Great Romantics (from the album: Let's Change The World With Music)

A great song from another great Prefab Sprout album.

***** Thanks for all the comments ;-) *****

Lyrics :

Last of the Great Romantics

--------------------------------------

Here comes the last of the great romantics.

Faithful and true, believing in you,

regardless of the things you do.

Here comes the last of the great romantics,

feet planted wide, defying the tide.

Come on Gatsby, stand aside.

People see me walking down the street

and I hear them saying 'here he comes'

That boy makes a banquet from

a table of crumbs...

He hears romantic music in

unanswered phones,

in the angry slamming of a door,

and the girl that he's mad about

does not care any more.

Here comes the last of the great romantics.

Defying the tide. Come on Gatsby, stand aside.

Here comes the last of the great romantics.

Not foolish, not grand, taking a stand.

Out of touch? No, in command!

So people, never ridicule the lovesick fool

or say he's only carrying a torch,

in his hands it's a flamethrower

and his judgement is scorched.

Here comes the last of the great romantics.

Not tortured, not wracked. Illusions intact.

Undiscouraged by the facts.

Here comes the last of the great romantics.

Feet planted wide, defying the tide,

come on Gatsby, stand aside.

Here comes the last of the great romantics.

I really prefer their first two albums. The new songs all sound the same with cheesy titles.

Last of the Great Romantics, Sweet Gospel Music, and Meet the New Mozart are complete thoughts, very rare in modern music. These and the core of Jordan the Comeback along with Nightingales, Hey Manhattan, and Sound of Crying are darn near Gershwin in superb songwriting

To be honest i love them all but if pushed i'd choose Steve McQueen and Langley Park just ahead of this. This is a Paddy McAloon homemade album more than a Prefab Sprout studio job. Still sounds superb though as you say

Yes, I would say this is one of the best undiscovered bands. They have great music and lyrics.

Impressive both lyrics and melody. They´ve got a massive talent. Can´t even describe what the Sprouts have always meant to me

I wouldn`t say that although this song, Music is a Princess and the last one are alsolutely brillant. Among existing bands, I reckon that only The Blue Nile would be able to create songs at this level. Furthermore, I would pick Jordan the Comeback as their best.

Up there with Gerswin, Porter, Lennon/McCartney. What a songwriter.
