Porter Wagoner sings his 1955 #1 smash hit "A Satisfied Mind" live at the Grand Ole Opry in May 1967. Songwriters were Joe Hayes and Jack Rhodes.

Lyric:

How many times have you heard someone say

If I had his money I could do things my way

But little they know that it's so hard to find

One rich man in ten with a satisfied mind

Once I was wadin' in fortune and fame

Ev'rything that I dreamed for to get a start in life's game

But suddenly it happened I lost ev'ry dime

But I'm richer by far with a satisfied mind

[ steel ]

Money can't buy back your youth when you're old

Or a friend when you're lonely or a love that's grown cold

The wealthiest person is a pauper at times

Compared to the man with a satisfied mind

When life has ended my time has run out

My friends and my loved ones I'll leave there's no doubt

But there's one thing for certain when it comes my time

I'll leave this ol' world with a satisfied mind

Am I missing something here? Where is the swinging hair, flames in the background, and jumping on stage?? Here's a thought. When you have real talent, you don't need those thing to "enhance" the show.

So sad... And I've been talking about this in bible study... So many make such worldly comments, they praise the singer and ignore what he's singin'.And so, they miss a great blessing, I guess this's what our Lord spoke of when He said "Cast not ye your pearls before swine", when you do this are you not carnal? Here brethren, this is the progenitor: Proverbs 30:7-9:7: Two things have I required of thee;deny me them not before I die:8remove far from me vanity and lies:give me neither poverty nor riches;9feed me with food convenient for me:lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the Lord?or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

Whoa! Pickers take note- rarest of rarities! a stand-up pedal steel with pedals on the right! There is also off camera a b-bender guitar backing whenever he doesn't play. Rich classic country!

Bob Dylan did a great version of this song on the album "Saved" about 1981. Probably as close to a modern remake as you'll get, dje22able.
