I met the sisters some years after this recording, when they visited Amsterdam. It was great fun and I took June and Ruth to a DiscoParty where they screamed when they first heard Ian Dury's-"Hit me with your rythmstick!!!", we cried laughing. Also they were awarded a "Platinum album" for "Energy", and gave a fantastic concert at the Carré theatre in Amsterdam, which later was broadcasted on Dutch national radio.

I'll always cherish those memories of having spent some time with these fantastic women, so full of fun and yet so real, Ruth the typical oldest sister (love her), Anita more reserved and alert, and June(bless her soul) the youngest, a few years older than myself, so open to new things and ready to eat the world.

It's good to see that so many of you outthere do love these sisters and aknowledge how enormously talented they are.

when they first hit the scene, in the Bay Area, with the '40s/50s-drag and scat shtick', there was no one in music, like them. That was their hook, if you will. Much like LaBelle, with their look. And then from there, after they got your attention, visually, you paid attention to their talent. And their talent was immense. The Pointer Sisters, could sing ANYTHING. One of the greatest groups of all time. Period..

Hi Universuale.I'm coming late to the party (6 years in fact), but I was so inspired, I went to my vinyl collection- June's album is called "Baby Sister" 1983 on Planet records. Produced by Richard Perry. She did 2 Motown covers- "I'm Readuy for Love" & "Don't Mess w/Bill". Unfortunately It didnt leave much of an impression. When I get my turntable running, (and when I learn how to post vids), I'll share it with you all.Glad to see so many fans, and I bow to you for finding & posting these gems.

yeah, it's kinda cheesy today, but back then, @ their live show, we were hootin' and hollerin'

They also sang backup vocals on 1 of Taj Mahals early albums. Their sound was so distinct, I knew immediately it was them. Can't be beat.Too bad there's no one doing what they did & with such versatility. They are sorely missed. RIP sister June (you were my favorite- mostly because of the braces & I could hit all your parts... before my voice changed. hahah). Thanx for the post.Does anyone have the Carol Burnett show where they did the Ellington medley (sitting on stools w/Carol singing too)???

Now this I don't have on video/dvd and would love to. Bonnie (in the gold) is and always was my absolute favorite. Then Ruth (the tallest on the left) comes right after for me.

This is definitely the rawest version they did of Wang Dang Doodle! The album recording is a bit more country rock but this is hard funk!

We saw and enjoyed them immensely at Northrup auditorium (U of MN campus) in the early 70's. Such great talent and unique style. Can't think of any group that is anything like them.

@mrborges73 Yes, they sang backup for Betty Davis for sure on her debut album, though I'm not sure about the other albums. You can hear them the best individually on the song "Game is my Middle Name"
