Really nice! For me, the best thing Phil ever did was Warm Woods on Epic. Here he leans too much on Bird, but on Warm Woods Phil finds his own voice.

This is not a big band, but rather some of the members of the Quincy Jones band from Free and Easy. I recognize Budd Johnson, Clark Terry, Patty Bown and Phil.

This is of course not a Phil Woods Big Band or even Phil Woods Septet, though he might have been named as a leader. These magnificent seven were the members of Quincy Jones Big Band that came to Europe in 1960 to do a Harold Arlen show which got cancelled and the musicians were forced to look for whatever work they could find to pay their way back to the States and this was one of those gigs. The musicians here are - Clark Terry (trumpet) the great Budd Johnson (tenor sax) Jimmy Cleveland (trombone) Phil Woods (alto) Patty Bown (piano) Buddy Catlett (bass) and Joe Harris (drums).

Should this say Phil Woods "Big Band"? seems more like a "combo". Great bone player too.
