I saw her in this role at West Point in the 1990s, and she was GREAT! At 80 years, her voice is diminished but she can still sell a number over the footlights! Go get 'em Petula!

You are a total idiot with a capital I.....she has worked so hard and brought joy to so many people for over 6 decades and you can't give the lady a break? What are you going to do at 80 years old? Whine and complain and act like the helpless oaf you are!

Hi Jan. "With One Look" is wonderful when performed by Betty Buckley. I have it on a Reader's Digest album, and it is out of this world.

So Julie Andrews should never have made any of her later movies, like "Thoroughly Modern Millie" or "Victor Victoria?" Streisand should never have made "Hello Dolly" "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever" "The Way We Were" "Funny Lady" or "Yentl?" and Petula Clark should never have sung "I know a Place" "My Love" "This is My Song" or "Don't Sleep in the Subway?" Why would you want to rob everyone of these things??

Julie Andrews should have made the Sound of Music and retired; Barbra Streisand should have made Funny Girl and retired; Petula Clark should have sung Downtown and...

So, it seems you do not like it, or am I wrong?

Petula is really struggling here vocally. Desmond is a rangy part which requires a strong chest voice. At 80 Petula gives it a go but some of the notes seem beyond her. Compare this to her wonderful interpretation of Maria in The Sound of Music back in '82 and the difference is very noticeable. Still, she looks better than ever in the clip!

No, she SUCKS. She is KNOWN for sucking as Norma Desmond, hell she even ADMITS it. Having Petula Clark cast as Norma Desmond is the definition of gimmick casting to raise the box office receipts. She was never meant to be any good in the role.

Ummm... Petula never played Norma in Los Angeles and NYC. She only did a rinky-dink low budget touring production that toured the provinces in America.

She was pedestrian in the London production, but by the time she joined the subpar 2nd US Tour, the new director pretty much "directed her" into the ground.

I see a lot of criticism of Pet Clark's "Norma" and I agree that this was not the best choice for her to sing at this stage in her life. I don't particularly care for this song anyway. I read an interview recently where Julie Andrews told how her vocal chords were damaged by, for lack of a better work, overuse. It happens and age changes things too. Pet Clark can still sing. I love her new album, but she chose songs that she can sing, and well - and she looks wonderful.

Where'd you see her? Just curious. I saw Glenn Close (NYC), and saw Petula (Baltimore). Petula wasn't good in Act I (vocal problems), but come Act II? She was great. I doubt Swanson's burial place turned into a turbine power plant - but the image does make me smile...

Dude, she SUCKED as Norma Desmond, she's NOTORIOUS for sucking as Norma Desmond. Every time Petula played the role, Gloria Swanson's burial place turned into a turbine power plant!
