They ought to play this song in all the depression wards--it's a cure or kill solution. But I think far more cure than kill!

I'll be 63 in a few days ... and I'm leaving this playlist on as I go to sleep. This was the music that kept me sane [more or less ;-)] during some tough times in my life ... the loss of my little brother, the drinking and fighting of my parents, never being able to have "the guys" over because I never knew what would blow up next in our house but could be certain that it would be my fault and that I'd see the buckle end of a belt sometime soon.Welcome to upwardly mobile suburbia.Pet and a whole host of other talented people were the bright wallpaper on some otherwise dark times. I can still sing a bunch of the Monkees stuff and hear "Angel of the Morning" and "Breakfast in Bed" ... that's about as naughty as it got for a geek kid like me (who also had a reputation as the one kid you didn't want to fight -- go figger. But a fight I get suckered into on the first day of HS sealed the deal and I didn't have to fight any more until AFTER I had graduated and was walking out of school for the final time. [it's a long story])I never had the money for albums back then, but I had a couple of the songs in this mix as 45s. My Dad would get drunk for a couple weeks or a month and give me the household money instead of Mom and she'd let me keep a couple dollars for myself ... so I acquired quite a library of 2-3 45s and Bill Cosby's "Why Is There Air?" on LP. By the time I graduated I also had "Jefferson Airplane Takes Off". "Come up the years" was a favorite.

It's too bad kids today don't listen to music like this as I did when I was in HS, the time this song debuted on Billboard. I loved it then just as much as now. I think the lyrics are relevant even in today's times. I bet a love sick teenager could transcribe the lyrics to this song, write it as a poem and give it to his or her boyfriend or girlfriend as a post on their Facebook wall or in a text message and their significant other would love it, never knowing where it really came from! It might be an interesting experiment to try out on some kids! :)

I remember back in the day listening to this on a small transistor radio that was powered by a 9 volt battery. The sound quality was terrible but it was all I had. My sound system is much better now. This song is still great!
