Peggy Lee wrote in her biography how she first started singing with my Dad's trio at the 'Doll House' in Palm Springs. Then did a few records with them. For my Grand-kids..... here is your Great-Grandfather on guitar... the man who taught me 'how to.'

I like this version better than Frankie Lymon's version, even though I originally was looking for that one.

Your right. A couple of web pages claim she did, but the Wikipedia article about her lists songs she did write or co-wrote and Goody Goody isn't one of them. That's a more reliable source.

Goody Goody was written in 1936 and Peggy Lee actually wrote the lyrics for it as well. She was a songwriter in her own right and also wrote the lyrics for her music and other composers songs. Peggy Lee's style is very different from Frankie Lymon's and his performance of Goody Goody is really great, but both have their merits. I admire Peggy Lee because she was able to escape a bad childhood home and make it on her own somehow. She accomplished a lot in life.

a lot of legends like ella and sinatra got famous by recreating standards: a few of the songs, if you wanted to find the original composer, might date back into the 1800s! it's very much expected for a jazz singer to have a large repertoire of standards, which is why it's so easy to find multiple versions of songs like "blue moon" for example. on top of that, a lot of these classic singers performed before musicians were expected to write their own music, so that adds to the duplicates, too :)
