Two very powerful singers just make this song really believable. Jane Powell and Jan Peerce perform this wonder from Lerner and Loewe.

A beautiful tune such as this needs to be rendered with a classic touch. Only the wondrous performance of Peerce and Powell can reach such heights of quality to match the demands of this lovely theme.

I was moved when I heard this song again, I was still a young girl and always loved the song. I had to try not to cry. Thank youso much for sharing and taking me down memory lane.

Jan Peerce sang with the Hollywood sopranos, first with Deanna Durbin in ther film Something in the wind when they sang the Miserere from Il Trovatore de Verdi and here with Jane Powell a Lerner and Loewe beautiful song.

I'm happy to know that you liked this! I'm not familiar with that of Mitchell and Brhonill. I will look for it! Thanks again for your comment.

A very charming performance. Reminds me of the partnership between Keith Mitchell and June Bronhill in "I KNOW NOW" (Robert & Elizabeth)

Thanks so much for your response rajah35! Mr. Mitchell is so like Mr. Kiley; a fine actor, as well as amazing singer. You're so lucky to have seen, and met these legendary characters. I remember only being able to buy the LP vinyl of Man of La Mancha. Though I've uploaded many things to YT, my understanding of the intricacies of the message thing leaves much to be desired. Will send you another message soon. Thanks so much once more!

Absolutely agree with varadero1839's comments. Brian Stokes Mitchell is the best singer-actor since Richard Kiley. Was lucky enough to see Kiley and all the original cast, including Joan Diener, at the ANTA Playhouse, just off Greenwich Village, in the 60's, in Man Of LaMancha. After seeing the show, we all went down the block, to Gerde's Folk City, to watch the folk singers.. A magic evening. rajah35

@Docdogs1 Who knows? Not that she sang anything on her very recent outing as the guest commentator on Turner Classic Movies, but millions watched! She's still lovely, even in her 80's, and hopefully, her appearance on this show will convince some "new-comers," that her performances are more than worth a visit. I've been watching since I the year 19xx! Love her!

Well ... live it down ... Isn't it about time that some of the false stuffed shirts of classical opera actually acknowledged the true vocal talent that film voices such as Jane Powell's really were!! ;)

@jwcasciato I agree with your last statement. Don't loose hope my friend! There are still a few around; Dawn Upshaw, Rebecca Luker, Brian Stokes Mitchell, and others. Hopefully, these will be the ones who'll pull us through! They're "so good," that the rest of the "mediocre" types will fall by the wayside, and be forgotten. Thanks so much for your comment!

Where, oh where is real talent like this today? Nowadays we accept the "mediocre", label it true talent, and then afford it great celebrity. There are of course a few exceptions, but in general, I believe this to be so.
