I'm with you 100% PrettyGreen, I had never heard Neil Young's original until I sought it out later. Like you, I heard Paul's version on Studio 150 and that was it. He nails it emotionally and it's one of his most touching performances, so this is the one I connect with. Likewise, a good friend (who is a massive Neil Young fan) won't give this five seconds, and I respect that. To each their own.

Everything But The Girl, in the moments before they went all drum 'n' bass, did a terrific version of this song. I think, if memory serves, it's on the same CD single as their version of "The Only Living Boy In New York".

@clarkyboy67 I didn't read your original comment because I don't give a shit what you have to say. And it's really annoying reading comments in which the person has no since of grammar and uses NO punctuation other than commas.

@clarkyboy67 I have neither the time nor the desire to check if someone's account is active or not. What difference does it make anyway? You read it, didn't you?

@BlondeRocknRoll "Soulful edge"?? Are you serious? This dude's just pretending to sing someone else's song with soul. You want to see this song done with REAL soul watch Neil Young perform it. Based on your comment, I think your username was aptly chosen.

I agree, 'fly away beside you', makes no sense at all. Can't beat the original.

In young's original there's a sadness and hurt that is felt in the singing style. In this cover (and I like Paul Weller) the Bluesy mode loses the depth. In Blues there is a sadness that the singer is overcoming though the song. In Young's version, there is a subtle hopelessness that is painful, yet beautiful.

i dont think he has . pretty soulful and moving version i think. its a very hard song i would say to mess up ...testament to the power of Neil youngs composition, a pure beautiful song full of earthly and spiritual love.

Amazing. I've always held Neil Young as one of my favorite songwriters whose songs ALWAYS sound better when done by someone else. Case and point. Weller blows this one out of the water with ease and grace.

One of Paul's most emotional vocal performances, this just tears me up. Brilliant.
