PS-Joe Marsala wrote AND SO TO SLEEP AGAIN in Aspen, Colorado in 1950. Originally meant for Frank Sinatra(who had released Marsala's first hit, Don't Cry Joe in 1949 for Columbia) it was recorded by Patti Page in 1951 for Mercury Records. My father was scrupulous about not copying anyone's melody so he played the tune around town asking listeners if they'd ever heard a similar song, no one had. Joe began a lyric for this tune but had some difficulty so he sent it off to his friend, lyricist Sonny Skylar, to complete. Patti Page did a multiple track recording of herself as a one-woman quartet on this tune(it was a blockbuster style for her)and it remains to this day, a song much done by a capella groups in competitions(look for it on youtube in many versions).

I love this song. I'm lucky to have this on an original 78rpm record.

Not only are the harmonies perfect, but each part had to be done in one take since they were bouncing the track from machine to machine. To have this much hi-fi on that equipment is amazing. VERY cool!

All of the voice parts on the track are Patti. A sound engineering feat of brilliance! It took many frustrating hours and takes to make that pestering "s" in sleep line up, but it was done, and it revolutionized recording into the incredible tricks it's capable of today.

I was fourteen years old in 1951 when this song was recorded, I loved it then and I love it today. I wish we had songs and singers like this today.

As much as we loved this song and so many other Patti Page songs, I don't think we realized then the enormity of her talent. We know it now.
