Great song, great music. I suppose, the widespread preference for Irish music stems from a desire for a real "folk" music, for a music of the plain people, of the countryside, which combines best with the internationality of the English language within Irish music, which is English (=global) and traditional at the same time. Hardly any other kind of European folk music could manage this.
