This should be titled "1988 version" although it was released in 2010 on Bruce's CD "Orpheus Again". Also, that's Brad Delp from the band Boston on back-up vocals.

I remember first hearing this song in the 60's and all the people I hung with were musicians, and I didn't know anyone that didn't love this song. It's beautiful, timeless, one of those tunes that once in your head never ever goes away.

In 1982 I left communist Czechoslovakia for Venice Ca. I was 22. There, in a huge record store on Lincoln Bl I found LP Orpheus for ten cents, with this song on it. The tune holds ALL the dignity of mankind´s connection with music.

Saw you open for The Who back in 68!You said "May The Who drop an amplifier on you" as Orpheus left the stage. Not a lot of bands can share a stage and memories with The Who,but I remember your set as well as theirs. That said, what are the lyrics,Bruce? Baby you're what?I For 45 years I've heard it as "all" and now they're telling me it's "wrong"!

No matter how this was recorded--what instruments were used or not used--it simply does not matter at all, to me. This is just beautiful, & to me, more heartfelt . Either way, this song is a masterpiece, & I just thank God for singer/ songwriters like Bruce.      Wolfsky9, 67 y/o

Top 3 alltime favorite song for me.  Can't remember the other two right now.  A truly great song from a very intense time in my life.

A great song, even GREATER... Love BOTH versions, a great song and great vocalist, can't be beat... I have done this song for 45 years in MANY different styles, and NEVER have gotten sick of it. Truly a gem... WONDERFUL and APPRECIATED! Thanks for sharing...

I like the original version. I could be wrong but I can hear what sounds like electronic keyboard instead of all the orchestra arrangements of real instruments not keyboard samples. I could be wrong but it sounds like keyboard sampled sounds. The vocals are great and the guitars are good but I can't stand electric keyboard, sampled sounds. That is just my two cents. Prefer the original version, more authentic instrument sounds. Its a lot harder, longer, and more expensive to produce. But the end product is worth it.

I was just a kid stumbling my way through UMass when this song was popular. It was a beautiful escape from the fears of that dark Vietnam era. Bruce, this version is even better than the original. I love the slower tempo. It gives you more time to absorb the beauty of the melody and lyrics. Thanks so much for taking this classic and making it even better!
