In the mid to late 60's, the blues re-invaded rock with a vengeance. The slickest blues/rock band was the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. The horns here have all the grown-up sophistication of good jazz. And Butterfield's harp playing delivers such a commanding solo that the guitar barely dares to follow.I won't be following chronological order here any more. I'm just zeroing in on songs that were very important to the history of rock, but nearly forgotten now. Radio stations have almost erased certain parts of rock history by just ignoring it.

Masterful version of the Miracles' composition/Marvin Gaye's recording. Butterfield's harp and the horn section are amazing. I agree--Butterfield was long overdue not only for the R&R HoF (he wasn't really a rocker in the strict sense of the word), but also as a blues interpreter.

I agree. The approach to the guitar lead is so darn cool. That Butterfield ain't a bad singer either.

I had the Marvin Gaye version in my head and decided to look it. I saw this one as well, and decided to give it a listen. I'm glad I did. So good to hear alternative versions of old favorties. Thanks for posting!

Amazon.com has this listed as "One More HEADACHE," for some reason. I had an album years ago, "Golden Butter," that was a retrospective of the Butterfield Blues Band, and this song caught my ear more than any of the others. Evidently this was written by Smokey Robinson. That's Elvin Bishop on lead guitar, by the way; shame he never got more popular.

Woke up singing this tune for no apparent reason and had to hear it! This tune, and indeed this entire album is very special.
