"One Mint Julep" was a rhythm and blues song written by Rudy Toombs that became a hit for The Clovers in 1952. Toombs was hired by Atlantic Records to write humorous up-tempo rhythm and blues novelty songs. The humor in this song comes in part from the idea of a young black man getting drunk on mint juleps, thought of as an aristocratic southern white woman's drink. In 1961 "One Mint Julep" finally reached a mass audience when Ray Charles's instrumental version reached No. 1 on the R&B charts and also No. 8 on the pop chart. Charles' version, featuring him on the Hammond B-3 organ, was from his 1961 album "Genius + Soul = Jazz". Featuring arrangements by Quincy Jones and Ralph Burns, Charles was accompanied by members of The Count Basie Band. The album was re-issued by Rhino Records in 1997 on a single CD together with Charles' 1970 "My Kind Of Jazz". Ray Charles Robinson (September 23, 1930 -- June 10, 2004), better known by his shortened stage name Ray Charles, was an American musician. He was a pioneer in the genre of soul music during the 1950s by fusing rhythm and blues, gospel, and blues styles into his early recordings. He also helped racially integrate country and pop music during the 1960s with his crossover success. Charles became one of the first African-American musicians to be given artistic control by a mainstream record company. The influences upon his music were mainly jazz, blues, rhythm and blues and country artists of the day such as Art Tatum, Nat King Cole, Louis Jordan, Charles Brown, Louis Armstrong. Rolling Stone magazine ranked Charles number 10 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time in 2004, and number two on their November 2008 list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. Who didn't appreciate this? So maybe google/youtube should add "Respect the talent, just not my style." R.C. only person to make the "Billboard" in 7 different decades. 70+ years of music lovers have defeated this numbskull and mental midget.

I heard/saw Ray do this live in '61. One wrist was in a plaster cast from a very recent, possibly drunken, spill.
