I had the good fortune to grow up listening to this wonderful music. My favorite groups were the Clovers, the Drifters, the Coasters, and the Midnighters. Three of these groups are still performing today''60 years later. Long live the oldies!!!!!

I didn't mean to imply that Lawdy Miss Clawdy was sung by The Clovers, it wasn't. It was sung by Lloyd Price. No white music could even come close to this music. IMHO

I'm also from the 50's and this was one of the first rhythm and blues songs I really liked along with Lawdy Miss Claudy. I think I was about 14 and didn't even know what a mint julep was. I just loved the music.

That' because the Ray Charles Orchestra's version of "One Mint Julep" is the one that most people of my generation (Baby Boomers) remember hearing on the radio...

The Clovers began in the beginning and held the line all throught the 50's. You can hear new and beautiful harmonies each and every time you listen. Truly the best of the best.

The Clovers hit #1, in 1952 with "Fool Fool Fool". Then 12 years old, I became a big fan of The Clovers. My all time favorite was "One Mint Julep", with "Love Love Love" a close second. GREAT! teenage memories.

This is the original and it is still spectacular.

You are correct about this being the original recording from '51....but you are incorrect about Ray Charles having the version that every remake since then is based on. Clovers reached #2 by early 1952. Nothing compares to the original version, including Ray's, although his charted at #8 in 1961. I'm surprised afficianados on here let you get away with that statement. I couldn't.
