Here are some facts/reviews about "Big Long Now" from songfacts.com :

This song appears to be about an alien encounter. There's not much to go by, but some lines like "She's not turning green," "Why can't I hear" and "Instantly grow" lead many to think this song is about extraterrestrials.

refers to Cobain's popularity. he couldnt go out because of fans and paparazies "Can we show our faces now?" "Endless climb" might refers to his non-stoping growing popularity, and "Why am I shown?" to medias giving him front pages.

Kurt feeling like he's imprisoned in himself or it's about hus childhood and how other people didn't seem to listen to him at times.

reference to the book of Genesis in the bible. Namely the story of Adam and Eve.

Brilliant observation that big long now. All along the timeline of human history it was always and always will be "now" from our perspective. Kurt definately was a deep thinker, not to mention one of the greatest songwriters ever.

You are all a reason why he blew his fucking head off. If i had to see assholes make stupid assumptions about lyrics that are pretty clear I'd also cave my fucking head in with a shell. Good for him.

So I am living in this trailer in the middle of nowhere, when I start to think about the world and whether or not it is a purgatory of sorts. Its cold outside and all I have is this cheap coil heater warming me up. there are blankets and artwork everywhere to keep the warm in, in particular, I used cardboard to seal the windows with duct tape. I am laying on my back on this table turned into a bed with the guitar in my hand and i remember this song. I knew how to play it.Its not cold enough. And on the cardboard "please put this side up".So in life, living in shit, with filth thoughts, this song does capture that nothing. The same nothing that causes me to walk as a black shadow, in line with others, amongst the black grey background.

Dude, when you write everything that is in your mind without thinking you're expressing your unconsciousness. In a sense the songs he write with that method ( called automatic writing ) are probably very deep. I use this too, and it is very surprising. And by the way he was just his opinion, as i do now :) Sorry for my english.
