Well, I have a theory about Jack's origin, but before we talk about it let's go back to a 1949 film: The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, which is a movie akin to TNBC. In this film the inhabitants of a city sing a song very similar to the one that begins TNBC talking about how the monsters go out on Halloween. In the film, it is said that the leader of the creatures of Halloween is the Headless Horseman, but we know that Jack is actually their leader. Another proof is that both often use a pumpkin catching fire in the place of the head (besides that Jack is seen at the beginning of the film mounted on a horse and with the pumpkin, and he can easily remove his head).
