From the July 1986 video from the S.I.R. Sound Stage in LA, a DVD now discontinued according to Amazon. That is why I finally posted it, even though I've had it and Wolftrap for a while.

This is almost 30 years ago and yet, no one has been able to come close to - let alone surpass - Michael Hedges. Science had Einstein. Guitar playing had MH. RIP.

Make up a story when you go to sleep tonightWake up in the morning and hold it down deep insideAnd you can be a dreamerYou can be your dreams come true Let imagine lead, reality will follow throughSome of us dance to the sound of fortune and fame Others want to march all around defending their domain But you can be a dreamer You can be your dreams come true Let imagine lead, reality will follow throughIf darkness and pressure try to turn your story down— look back, think hard about how that story really sounds Then you can be a dreamer You can be your dreams come true Let imagine lead, reality will follow throughIt will follow you if you follow through

you know a guitarist is good when an opening riff makes you think, 'how the hell does he do that!?', it takes you back to being a child again, it reminds you of a time when everything was undiscovered and new, there aren't many gutarists who can do that, but Michael was one who did it with ease . . .

It's from "The Road To Return" album, but personally I prefer this live version.

What an awesom talent. Just discovered him. Feel like I've been missing out on something incredible for the last 51 years. Guess I'll have to make up for lost time. Does anyone out there know what cd I might find this song on. Can't seem to locate it on I-tunes and consider it a must have. Thanks.

Glad to see others open to exploring the boundaries ;) If you haven't already, check out "Arrowhead". Riffage and progressions should right up your alley. Tull fans should be all over it as well, what with the combination of Flute and Acoustic working it, over a solid groove. /watch?v=Dxhq_hDawmM&fmt=18

I keep discovering brilliant artists by happenstance because of the vast reach of the internet. Michael Hedges is a genius who died before his time, like Jeff Buckley. So often the great do die young. Savor his body of work, seven albums. Love it! Any others like him to check out?

@MrFaulconbridge Without a doubt his odd tunings and the things he did with them made his sound what it is more than anything, But what Will Ackerman and Steven Miller introduced him to in the studio changed his ideas about production. I only wish Alex DeGrassi would do the same as I believe his live shows suffer from a lack of it. I'd pay good money to see Alex with the same production.

@togue777 You know his double CC or BB tuning he used? he gave that open in your face melody with songs like Ritual Dance...

You dont get a better or more intense tone than this. I love this version. His willingness to use a few digital effects in just the right manner created such incredable dynamic tension. Despite the fact that I'm a 3 cord willy, Ive always tried to mimic his tone , which of course I cant do but it has certainly had a very positive effect on the sound that I get.. type3 , thanks and please keep it comming.
