Was Bays Carter still alive at this time? This is one of their late - life reunion performances. I am sure it was pretty emotional for them. This is less a performance for the sake of entertainment -- though they are both in good practice, dressed up, and trying their hardest. But these are elderly women who led challenging lives. I think this particular song, on this day, was hitting then both really hard. Maybelle kept performing and was a lively onstage professional. Even so, I'll bet these reunion shows were heavy for her at times. Touching on considerable grief, deep love, the pain of life. Listen and learn - this is folk music. We are very lucky to have the legacy of these songs. We are so blessed to have the film footage of their reunion. How grateful I feel to these two mature women for taking such an enormous risk, and sharing this with the world. I know people this age who won't leave their house except to go buy tv dinners. These women got dolled up and got on airplanes! !!! To sing for crowds and cameras! ! God bless the eternal memory of the Carter Family.

the story is a.p. happened upon saras shack while she was struming a zither and singing to herself on the porch, she was 15, and he was maddly in love with her from that moment on and thats what it was always about, just a boy in love with a girl. and everything that happend to them and the whole world was just a concequence of that, all the romance and heartbreak all the victory and tragady, the glory and strife, the imortal legacy and permanent damage boy meets girl well, thats how it works
