By far the best version of this song. Surprisingly, the song was co-written by Mark Lowry of the Gaither Vocal Band. He is the clown of the band, usually a goofball. But obviously he has a serious side to him also.

Kathy Mattea does THE definitive version of this song. The studio version on "Good News" (BTW, THE best non-traditional Christmas album out there) is perfect and this live version is almost identical. I don't know why anyone else tries to do this song after she did, but everyone does and they are all...lacking. And I'm no great Kathy Mattea fan. Can't stand her politics, which she can't help trumpeting (ala Bruce...I used to live and breathe Springsteen, cover all his early stuff [first 6 releases] in my band and acoustic solo, but now I can't stomache his demagoguery...I can't even listen to the old stuff anymore without a bad taste in my mouth...same with mattea).
