Well, as much as I greatly respect Martina's work, this sounds more like an outtake. It needs more country and less R&B. The production around terribly dated rather than vintage and intimate. Sometimes remakes need an update. A good example of this was a Pet Shop Boys cover of Elvis' You Are Always On My Mind. They gave it a synth pop twist, which pleasantly surprised me. By Martina employing a Stax lite sound, she puts her limitations on display. This album is reminiscent of Sheryl Crow's 100 miles from Memphis album. She excels in singing original material; her voice is a force of nature. Also, she could've taken a cue from Ray Charles's Modern Sounds in Country & Western, and Rhythm, Country and Blues compilation. The latter was ironically produced by Don Was, the same man who oversaw this album. I will say that Martina sings country gospel very well. That's where the influence would've been better sourced from.I look forward to original songs from Martina.

This song is supposed to have a desperate dark edge...this arrangement is horrible. It sounds like a nice little ditty. Martina is such an amazing singer, I just don't understand why she is having a problem finding the right material.
