I love this song, but I think that an orchestra on a whole cannot play at the speed of this song. it feels dragged a bit.

The song while told from a young girls perspective is about the abuse her mother tolerated from her father until a breaking point was reached - Independence day. The backdrop of the story is the 4th of july. Clever writing by Gretchen Peters the song writer created some great metaphors lyrically and the video reinfored this with strong images. While the outcome of the song is tragic - it ultimately is about freedom - the mother was able to get independence from her abuser by fighting back. The connection to the freedom of the US ties into the events of 9/11. The US was violated and fought back - exerting it's independence. One can argue how appropriate of a fit the song might be for the events of 9/11 or the United States in general but the story itself about independence from abuse cannot be denied.

In a way its about freedom.. Her mom by killing herself and her husband got freedom for herself and her daughter and made her guilty husband pay.

The song's about a wife who kills herself and her abusive husband, not freedom.

What I find funny is that they had Martina McBride sing a song on the 4th of July that is about domestic violence and has absolutely nothing to do with Americas freedom.
