Marc krant you need to listen to " live at the old quarter and "a gentle evening with Townes Van Zandt" on both he not only says he wrote it, he tells who "loop and Lil" are. Like most of his songs it was made famous by someone else but Townes wrote it!

Lovely. If ya'll like Van Zandt check out the "Live at the Old Quarter, Houston Texas" CD. Amazing. And to whomever questioned whether or not Van Zandt wrote the song. Yes, he did.

*Townes Van Zandt and Lyle Lovett*Just a beautiful human expression. I love the lineLoop and Lil agree shes a sight to see.By Townes Van Zandt If I needed you Would you come to me, Would you come to me, And ease my pain? If you needed me I would come to you I'd swim the seas For to ease your pain In the night forlorn The morning's born And the morning shines With the lights of love You will miss sunrise If you close your eyes That would break My heart in two The lady's with me now Since I showed her how To lay her lily Hand in mine Loop and lil agree She's a sight to see And a treasure for The poor to find

My childhood friend passed away very tragically on 10/24/13. He LOVED Lyle Lovett, and I used to laugh at him, because I am a HUGE metalhead. I would listen to Lyle not really paying attention, just going with the motions because Mike liked him so much. I listen to this song now & I break down & can't stop crying. It is so beautiful and his voice is just so mesmerizing. Thank you Mike...for being such an amazing man, and for showing me that diversity is a wonderful and beautiful thing. I Love YOU! RIP baby!!

It's hard to mess this song up--a tribute to how good it is. And Lyle's version is wonderful. But I keep coming back o Emmylou and Don Williams, not only for the purity of voice an impeccable delivery but for the marvelously understated and powerful arrangement behind them.

Lyle Lovett's version of Townes Van Zandt "If I Needed You" is a beautiful, magical and wonderful song that could be played and/or performed at any child's birth into this world, at every wedding, or at any funeral memorial service.

Lovett is very talented. You know, my Grandfather used to say,..."Real Country doesn't have all those drums, electric guitar & crap in it". You may disagree, but I think the Dixie Chicks are also underrated & under appreciated. Some of their stuff is like pure, country/bluegrass. Just vocals, fiddle, banjo & guitar. I think my grandpa would have appreciated some of the music, but he passed before they became popular.

I can testify to that. All Lyle Lovett meant to me was "Julie Roberts' ex husband". Until i listened him, really for the first time at the show Live from Abbey Road. Now i am a fan :-)
