I think this is my favorite version so far. The cello and piano are very rich and the singing has an intensity and emotion that is very impressive. I have not heard all the different versions yet, but I think I will prefer this to most or all of them.

God, but that's a nasty song sung beautifully.

Loreena`s voice is heavenly as always, but the Solo Cellist is beyond compare, such an accomplishment is superb, F.

My daughter in law is Kelt of Celt, Dell of O`Dell sept Clan by Eire & Ulster, she has borne me the most beautiful g/daughter to my son Jay Scott of Scots, 8th Laird of Ashestiel, should an old man ever receive such a blessing and joy by later life? Peter John.

It is said the treasury of the Irish soul is in their music. Beauty even out of tragedy. Wonderfully poetic words.

Such a small island Eire, we have given so much. Brilliant from a proud Canadian.

The Cymru Earl of Raglan, took an Eirann lass, Kathryn of O`Dell to his chamber, to be the `Comforter of his Bed`, little realising that she was higher born by Celt than he, he later married her to produce many heirs, they lived long and loved for ever, F.

I've heard this song sung by so many great artists, from Mark Knopfler to Sinead O'connor to Luke Kelly, but nothing touches me as deeply as this particular live version, which is, I think from "Nights at the Alhambra". It's actually better than the studio version, in my opinion, partially because Loreena's vocals are spot-on, bright and clear, as always but poignant and wistful as well. But it's the arrangement that elevates this version to near perfection for me, particularly the change in the duet from violin to cello. Caroline Lavelle playing is simply brilliant and the cello is the perfect counterpoint to Loreena's voice and piano. This youtube version is good, but pales acoustically in comparison to the CD or DVD versions. Do yourself a favor, listen to the real deal on a first-rate stereo or with great headphones and this version will stay with you forever, particularly those low bass notes in the cello solo. Shivers every time. :-)
