Philip Quast is the best musical performer I have ever heard. Maybe there are more technically perfect singers, maybe there are better actors (though he's a GREAT actor in non-musical roles)... but NO ONE combines the two as well as PQ!

Yes, but Quast is primarily Baritone (as here).

Archie's range isn't really all that high for a practiced tenor. It doesn't go anywhere near, for example, the range someone playing Jean Val Jean would have to hit.

Also you might notice in the original London cast recording, the guy who sang Neville actually did the highest note in "Lily's Eyes" instead of Archie. I guess the score was adjusted to Quast's best range.

He's really a great singer, but when he sang Archibald, they changed the key for him, which was mentioned in Lucy Simon's interview.
