I realised there aren't any videos of Philip Quast's version on youtube, so...

I own nothing. This is a clip from the 10th anniversary concert.

I just want to say one thing to the ones who compare Quast to Crowe. This version of Quast was live in a theater and unique, the one of Crowe was a scene in a film, that means that it was the best version chosen among many attempts and not unique and live.

Seriously though, I wish this was how they did it in the movie, this one is amazing.

What a masterclass in acting and singing. This man was born to play Javert. The complicated emotions are expressed so well.

I think three actors have this odd mix of things. Lewis has the best middleground between the next two, until this song, where he just becomes a bit overdramatic, to the extent of silly. He loses credibility at this point. Quast, I love the voice, and the acting, but don't like the emotional setup, which is powerful, and angry. It worked up until this point. But, in this case, for a song with this subject matter, I don't feel it works. The song is, to me, about feeling weak and lost. He realizes now, that his goal has become just as offensive to God as the crime he aimed to punish. He always feels that it is his duty to do or die, and at last, death becomes his chosen option as he considers who has earned forgiveness, and finds it to be Valjean, not himself. So when he comes to this conclusion, he dies. This is a solemn argument to have inside your head. This is where Crowe comes in. I don't like the voice, I don't like the acting, but I love the emotional setup. He's quiet, and sounds truly conflicted, as if he realized something. Not just angry, but as if he was trying to reason the whole time, as the lyrics imply.

Anyone know the name of the track at the very beginning (not the actual song)

Philip Quast, sensationnel dans le rôle de Javert encore une fois. Pas étonnant que la plupart des fans des "Misérables" le considèrent comme LE Javert.

While the singers did a wonderful job in all of this, everyone remember that this is nothing without a band to play with them.

I love the contrast between him an Crowe. I thought Crowe was amazing to be so honest. Both versions are so different and they're both amazing!

This music in most of this scene sounds far too cheery.

I actually prefer Russell Crowes version; Crowe's has a much more desperate and emotional feel to it
