Can't help wondering how the working relationship was between Flatt and Scruggs. Scruggs had zero stage presence but stole the show. Flatt: "Earl, will you shut up?" Scuggs: "Sure. You do the talking. I'll play the banjo."

Earl ingeniously figured out what needed to be played to make the music sound the best way back then. It has never been improved upon. There are lots of fancy players these days trying to reinvent the wheel but their playing is cluttered and doesn't have the driving rhythm that Earl's playing did. He was, and still is, the grand master.

The point of the upload was to share the music. There is no footage of Earl Scruggs playing this in the Mercury studio and I do not have access to his home movies. So..... hence the slides. Feel free to direct your own Flatt and Scruggs video though, Mr Spielberg.
