traduction {Ôte ce désir} ♫ ♪Beaucoup d'hommes ont aimé les clochesque tu as attachées par la brideet tous ceux qui te voulaientont découvert ce qu'ils voudront toujoursTa beauté perdue pour toi-mêmecomme elle l'était pour euxOh, ôte ce désir de ma languequ'importe les choses inutiles que ces mains ont faitesLaisse-moi voir ta beauté fracasséecomme tu le ferais pour quelqu'un que tu aimesTon corps comme un projecteurma pauvreté révéléeJe voudrais tester ta charitéjusqu'à ce que tu cries "tu dois maintenant tester ma gourmandise"Et tout dépend dela distance à laquelletu dors près de moiOh, ôte ce désir de ma languequ'importe les choses inutiles que ces mains ont faitesLaisse-moi voir ta beauté fracasséecomme tu le ferais pour quelqu'un que tu aimesAffamé comme une arcadepar laquelle les soldats sont passésJe me tiens sur les ruines derrière toiavec tes vêtements d'hiver, la bride de ta sandale casséeJ'aime te voir nue icisurtout de dosOh, ôte ce désir de ma languequ'importe les choses inutiles que ces mains ont faitesdénoue pour moi ta robe bleuecomme tu le ferais pour quelqu'un que tu aimesTu es fidèle au meilleur des hommesJ'ai peur qu'il s'en ailleAlors laisse-moi juger ton histoire d'amourdans cette même chambre où j'ai condamnéla mienne à mortJe porterai même ces vieilles feuilles de laurierqu'il a retiré de sa têteOh, ôte ce désir de ma languequ'importe les choses inutiles que ces mains ont faitesLaisse-moi voir ta beauté fracasséecomme tu le ferais pour quelqu'un que tu aimesComme tu le ferais pour quelqu'un que tu aimes{Traduction réalisée par Louizon}

My favorite Cohen song-- when I heard him perform this live I slow danced through a crowd of strangers and never felt more at home. I'm forever in love with this song x

"!Oh take this longing from my tongue,Whatever useless things these hands have done.Let me see your beauty broken downLike you would do for one you love".Leonard Cohen - 'Take This Longing'

Many men have loved the bells You fastened to the rein, And everyone who wanted you They found what they will always want again. Your beauty lost to you yourself Just as it was lost to them. Oh take this longing from my tongue, Whatever useless things these hands have done. Let me see your beauty broken down Like you would do for one you love. Your body like a searchlight My poverty revealed, I would like to try your charity Until you cry, "Now you must try my greed." And everything depends upon How near you sleep to me Just take this longing from my tongue All the lonely things my hands have done. Let me see your beauty broken down Like you would do for one your love. Hungry as an archway Through which the troops have passed, I stand in ruins behind you, With your winter clothes, your broken sandal straps. I love to see you naked over there Especially from the back. Oh take this longing from my tongue, All the useless things my hands have done, Untie for me your hired blue gown, Like you would do for one that you love. You're faithful to the better man, I'm afraid that he left. So let me judge your love affair In this very room where I have sentenced Mine to death. I'll even wear these old laurel leaves That he's shaken from his head. Just take this longing from my tongue, All the useless things my hands have done, Let me see your beauty broken down, Like you would do for one you love. Like you would do for one you love... ...........:)O(:...........

I once joked with Leonard about how CBS painted a third wing over the genitals of these lovers on the first release of the LP

Of all Leonard Cohen's great songs, the imagery here always stands out. The use of Biblical Holy events like Moses behind the rock, Jesus Christ adorned with the crown of thorns, is something that speaks to the spirit of the listener. Strangely enough, the sexual content speaks to the spirit too, and it doesn't take too long to realize that both the sacred and profane readings of these words represent a striving for completion towards the Divinity. Such a beautiful a song.
