SIDE TWO (Track 01) - written by Laura Nyro

Here is the debut album of Laura Nyro, "More Than a New Discovery".

Originally issued by Verve Folkways in February 1967.

LYRICS:

Bill,

I love you so,

I always will.

I look at you and see

The passion eyes of May.

(Eyes of May...)

Oh, but am I ever gonna see

My wedding day?

(Wedding day...)

Oh, I was on your side, Bill

When you were losin'.

(When you were losin'...)

I'd never scheme or lie, Bill.

There's been no foolin'.

(There's been no foolin'...)

But kisses and love won't carry me

Till you marry me, Bill!

(Till you marry, Bill!)

I love you so,

I always will.

And in your voice, I hear

A choir of carousels.

Oh, but am I ever gonna hear

My wedding bells?

(Wedding bells...)

I was the one came runnin'

When you were lonely.

(When you were lonely...)

I haven't lived one day

Not loving you only.

(Loving you only...)

But kisses and love won't carry me

Till you marry me, Bill!

(Till you marry me, Bill!)

I love you so,

I always will.

And though devotion rules my heart,

I take no bows.

Oh, but Bill, you know

I wanna take my wedding vows.

(Wedding vows...)

Come on, Bill.

(Come on, Bill...)

So come on, Bill!

(So come on, Bill...)

C'mon and marry me, Bill.

(C'mon and marry me, Bill!)

I love you so,

I always will.

(C'mon and marry me, Bill!)

I got the wedding bell blues.

(I love you so, I always will...)

Yeah, yeah...

The wedding bell blues.

(C'mon and marry me, Bill!)

Yeah, yeah...

(I love you so, I always will...)

The wedding bell blues.

(C'mon and marry me, Bill!)

For those who don't know, Laura Nyro wrote this (and numerous other songs) tune and it was a hit several years before the 5th Dimension released their cover.

A delightful version of a classic tune !! The late great Laura Nyro was not only a gifted songwriter but a talented singer too !! How sad she left us at such a young age !! One of the greats !! THANX for uploading this heartwarming "blast from the past" for us to enjoy !! CHEERS !! :-)

There is not a lot of difference between the Nyro and 5th Dimension versions. I like Nyro's best - it is more soulful and her voice is richer than Marilyn McCoo's which is saying a lot! Besides, Nyro wrote the song.

She remains my all-time favourite female singer/songwriter!! She was LONG overdue for induction into the R&R Hall of Fame!!
