Laura didn't officially release this during her lifetime. She evidently decided she didn't like this song so much and used elements of it for "Midnite Blue" on 'Smile'. It's a demo she recorded. Sony Japan tagged this and two others onto their reissue of 'Smile' in 2009 as bonus tracks. I find it interesting to hear an artist develop a song. Laura was good for introducing new songs at her live shows. They usually had several changes made before officially released on one of her albums.

I agree that you can be touched and transformed. I was one of those. However, with some artists, in their first burst of creative energy, they seem to "use up" all of their most incredible and unique ideas. I followed Laura from the beginning to the end, from funky NYC goddess to the earth mother phase, from the time when other artists covered her material to the time when none of them did with her newer stuff. After Smile, I think she lost some of her "bite". Still loved her!!

Sorry my friend.. to say it's all over the place is to miss the essence of Laura Nyro - artist!! Her compositional style and song structure remain without precedent in popular music. You don't listen to Laura Nyro for classical concert style piano virtuosity and harmonic resolution.. but for heart, for Soul, to be touched, even to be transfomed.

Actually her first album shows them trying to package her, but then David Geffen took over and gave her the artistic freedom.

What's cool about Nyro is that she "retired" from the music biz before the yuppie record exec "suits" tried to make her this packaged pop star. She literally probably gave up millions in potential earnings; oh and to Lewis1key--you're correct about YouTube™...it keeps it real--from the classic commercials, TV footage, and various other uploads, it's a good portrait of America and everyone's opinions count, whether we agree with them or not. Oh yeah, "Nyro" rhymes with "hero"!!
