Very nice, but I still enjoy Diana Ross doing this song even more. More to my style. The original version is not always the best version,

Pity its such a poor quality recording. Love her voice- a vastly under rated singer songwriter. Sorry but this is a lacklustre performance of a great song. Marvin & Tammi's version is a classic and Diana's reworking builds to an amazing climax- Laura starts off and kinda takes it nowhere.

You can see where Diane Ross got her Operatic version that she has been milking in concerts over the years. It was done here by Laura Nyro- the greatest, to my mind

I agree, I think you'd have to have lived on the moon for the past 50years never to have heard Marvin and Tammi's sublime original. I love Laura Nyro, but she doesn't do herself or this song justice on this occasion. Sorry.

That's beautiful. First time i've heard it. Despite the limitations of a manky old tape, the contemporary sounding improvisation of the chord changes stands out, and just the weigh she weighs and intensifies her performances; loosening, tightening, dipping, climbing, soaring, the lot.. yep.. still a goddess.

The arrangement is so different, the other poster no doubt got a little confused--or was born after 1980.

I think the woman she was referring to was Ms. Nyro.

This is the first time that I've heard a recording of laura having performed this song that I love. She NEVER ceases to astound and uplift me with her BEING that graced our planet. I feel grateful and fortunate to have lived in a time withy a person such as she was- and wilol remain remembered and discovered in lagacy. She- by virtue of her music and my ordinary, intense crush on her altogether. I get wedding bell blues in my dreams that I didn't / couldn't marry her! (sigh!) :)

I love this woman and her music. Even though Ashford and Simpson wrote this, she owns this song with this performance!
