Keep in mind the Fantom XR also has sampling and a sequencer if you need those for your application.

Well, great sounds, but I am not going on eBay to buy Fantom XR yet (right, it has ben discontinued). I will stick my with my XV-88 which still works. In fact, the XV-88's are so cheap these days, that I don't think M-Audio controller with Fanom XR is such a cost offective solution, given that the XV-88 keyboard action is absolutely spectacular, whereas, the action of the new controllers has so much to wish for. Ah, where are the days of the D-50 action... Okay, sorry. I digress.

To be honest, the action is pretty mediocre on all of these inexpensive controllers.

How do you like the action on the oxygen 61?

no the sound quality is ok, there's a good number of NEW (digitally re-recorded) waveforms, made exclusively for the G, and in those 256 mega, there's a selection of the best waveforms found in SRX collection...but the point is "who made this selection?", roland...so...maybe i'd prefer a particular wave, but roland prefered another! hw there's NOT all waves of srx and sr jv in the G, instead with the X series i can have 4 (or 6) srx with all samples i like...that's the point.

With the XR you can download free any sound you want from all the XP/ XV series :)

that's lame. So the G isn't that big of an upgrade? The sound quality didn't go up at all? I'm surprised. So, maybe the next Generation from Roland will be a bigger jump forward. It must be tough for Roland to compete with soft synths and instruments on computers.

I have the XP-60 and got the Fantom XR. Huge improvement in sound quality. I never tried the XV series. I don't have any expansion cards yet but had about 8 for the xp-60. I'm not sure if the Motif series is better. Anyone have thoughts on Fantom X series vs. the same year Motif. I guess that would be the XS series?

@AdiV8 IMHO the Fantom XR will give you the best sound quality, but the 1080 is easier to use.

Hello Keybdwizrd ! I need an advice from you! I want to buy a Roland module and i really don`t know what to choose: JV1080, XV5050 or Fantom XR. My main concern is the SOUND QUALITY! From what i read..jv1080 and xv5050 have a special vibe...but what module do you find with the most inspirational sounds from those 3?

@kyma1999x IMHO, Fantom X is way better for sound design, that's because you have more waveforms to choose from, obviously havin' at least 3/4 SRX installed. The G series instead is better for producing, that's because has a very powerful sequencer capable of play and record up to 24 audio tracks (in sample ram) and 128 midi tracks pointing to 16 midi channels only obviously. i use a fantom xr and a rack full of sound modules and i control them with cubase or logic, i don't like internal seq.

@keybdwizrd fantom G has a total amount of rom samples that's 256 megabytes vs 128 megabytes of fantom x series....but fantom xr could be expanded with 6 srx cards each containing 64 megabytes of samples, so with 6 cards installed the total amount of rom samples would be 128 internal + 64*6=512 mega of rom samples (double of fantom g). Roland made a selection of the best material from fantom x series, srx and also new samples and stored that stuff in 256 mega, and that's fantom G!

Excellent video, I also have a Fantom Xr in my setup, and the sounds are lovely its a great sampler too. The only thing is I wish they had made it taller so they could have installed a larger screen. There is always going to be something we want though. I hope Roland bring out a version with flash memory also.
