I listen to this song and try to analyze the comparison with Karen Carpenter singing this piece, compare to other singers. I think I know what I am getting at now. Karen has a maternal authority/way in her singing. The confidence, the care, the love, the general earnest way about her presence in a song. She may not have found the true love in her life when she was alive, but she knew how to give what she longed for and applied it to the songs she sang. 9 years ago

I'm usually not a fan of this song, because it is generally over sung in a show off kind of way that takes away from the meaning. Karen has captured the essence of the lyrics and sung them in her wonderful Karen Carpenter way, mellow, softly, without over doing it.
