Live at The Summit, Houston TX, December 9th, 1980. What makes this video special is that it's got all 6 original band members. The Houston concert is the only complete concert on film in circulation before the band lost their lead singer Steve Walsh.

I immediately teared up right when Steve began singing. Such a beautiful melody and Steve's voice. Ugh, such a pure band.

I'm sure they carried on because emotionally they were strong about it. Your comment was an opinion from you only. I'm sure Kansas wasn't like "Fuck Lennon, we're better than him so this is why we're still performing."

You asked how they carried on and I answered.

Look, if you like Kansas more then Lennon or the Beatles, that's fine. But on my first post, I was pointing out the fact that this concert took place only 1 day after Lennon's murder. I thought it was extremely noteworthy ya know? Wouldn't u agree. The whole world was in deep shock and mourning his death. Saying "because they're better musicians than him"........what does that have to do with the tragic events of that previous day? I'm sure they were fans of him regardless of influence.

Kerry grew up listening to classical and jazz. I've never heard him cite the Beatles as an influence for his writing, much less any rock group. Walsh frequently cites Iron Butterfly as an influence - not the Beatles. I don't care if you like Lennon and his music more than Kansas, but his composing skill does not hold a candle to Kerry's. This song is evidence of it.

How dare you disrespect John Lennon like that. The icon was a FUCKING Beatle! Everyone loved and looked up to him including Walsh and Livgren. Without Lennon, music wouldn't be the same and Kansas likely wouldn't be around either. The guy fucking got shot and killed for no reason the night before, so I'm 100% sure everyone was saddened and shocked by the news. I'm sure the guys from Kansas didn't think the same as you did about Lennon. As much as I love Kansas, they're not better than Lennon.

Because they're better musicians than him and Kerry Livgren is a much better composer than him

Did you guys know this was the day after John Lennon was killed?? Wow.......i wonder how they carried on with this concert after the horrible news. Notice that the crowd is not very loud, not that many people were there i imagine.

Thanks for posting. I saw this same tour when I was at Western Illinois University. Steve still had his voice back then. Great memories! I wish today's music was as good as bands like this one.

I do not know, but on the studio version, did Rich Williams do the guitar solo after the synth solo? He does do so here at 4:48.

Does it sound like Steve Walsh's piano is out of tune in places? I could attribute that to the generally poor audio quality, given how old this concert video is.

I just ask myself, if they knew that John Lennon just was killed. Do anybody know, if kansas gave a comment to this in there concert?

First time I saw Kansas was this Tour in 1980. Amazing to see it like this again...Love playing this tune on the piano...great band. Are they in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yet? NO! What's taking so long?
