I just stumbled upon this song after diving a little further into Kansas. This is a complicated composition. I've studied and played all instruments in the ELP/YES large conceptual pieces as much as anyone, this has an equal complexity of those and I would be very proud to even have written a minute of this song, great work. As far as the times (early 80's clothes and general atmosphere, I enjoyed at the time as a kid, and still enjoy seeing these types of bands get stretched into things they probably wouldn't have done, thereby creating music that wouldn't have been around otherwise. And carried my mentors through what seems to be the darkest times of any band.

John Elefante had an amazing set of pipes. No, he's not Steve Walsh, but he could hit those clear-as-a-bell high notes.

Growing up, I listened to Kansas' Greatest Hits album a lot as background music while I read books (Anthony, Eddings, etc..) To this day, those songs bring back memories of those books.

one of my favourite Kansas songs, and the best quality live version i have found, The Steve Walsh fronted from the 1980 tour is poor sound and video but he is still and will always be one of the finest rock singers of all time.

The fact that Kansas is not huge anymore is an atrocity. They need recognition.

And if he put his own personal touch on it you would bitch about that. This is a kick ass concert and unlike many Kansas videos the quality is great and the performances are super tight. Just fucking enjoy! Elephante dominates here!

There was an early lineup of Kansas with woodwinds that was reformed as Proto-Kaw a few years back.

Wouldn't that be just too awesome, and hilarious, if for the flute solo Ian Anderson ran out and just tore it up for a few minutes and then disappeared, never to be seen again for the rest of the night!

What if he tripped at the end when running up to his piano. That would severely suck.

Give this boy some credit, he is not Walsh but make Kansas work and that counts!

The thing is, Elefante is a good singer, but he's trying hard to sing like Steve, he's just copying the record. Walsh owns...

re-energized the band? Are you serious? Look at Robby and Phil, they are miserable. While Livgren was their defact writer, Walsh was THE voice of Kansas. Elefante can sing, but his material was not at all up to the standards of Livgren or even Walsh for that matter. The material Walsh wrote for VC is much better than what Elefante contributed

There is nothing like the original, but I must admit that Elefante kept the Kansas band going ... his voice was in top form

This version of Kansas seemed to be re-energized and had the hunger and fire again! Clearly things had grown stagnant with Walsh and Livgren and the change of Singers refocused the band! There can be no denying that they are tighter than a nun here!

Woah you really know it's 1982. Look at Elefante's clothes and some of those dance moves. Scary!
