Luther was joking by looking sad and rolling his eyes singing "I'll be all smiles tonight" and added the words paycheck stolen by Johnny thing. It's a joke. He's a funny guy. Lol. Humor! Like a pre-hee haw thing.

I like the verse about Johnny Cash dropping Luther's pay cheque then snatching it back -The whole thing is a joke based on Luther's permanently mournful face. The audience sound like they missed the joke too. June carter had such a great sense of humour and her affected voice is really funny.

Hahahahah I nearly fell of my chair! I thought June's teeth might fall out during the intro! She was speaking in thutch a funny voice. Luther was brilliant straight faced and mournful and constantly gazing down at June as though begging approval, all shy and nervous. A class act, what a gem of a recording. Many thanks for posting.

I did recognise the Irish flavour though I've not been able to name the original tune so far, However I'll be in Ireland next week and I'll ask around

...one more thing. Do you realize this is a traditional Irish song, dating to 1879? God forbid, when the Louvin Bros recorded it with no FLUTE,they murdered a great Irish song!

Does anybody get the joke? June and Luther played it so straight,it seemingly went over the heads of the audience,as well as the ones commenting on this vid. You're worried about the electric guitar? Did you notice they added words to this "great country song" also? The always straight-faced Luther singing, "i'll be all SMILES tonight"? Maybe June and Luther's sense of humor were a little too advanced for their audience.

A good example of how easily electric guitar can murder a great country song
