I am 41 and I have been a huge Clash fan since I was like 18. Somehow I had never heard the 101ers version of this song until today. God bless you for uploading it. :-) Thanks! It's awesome!

That story only got put about when he was in The Clash, Elgin Avenue was the main drag for a larger area of squats,so the squatted area got known as "Elgin Avenue", Joe didn't actually live on Elgin Avenue but on a side street off it and it wasn't number 101....

yes i used to watch the 101ers at the charlie pigdog club when they started out and a few gigs at the elgin, joe should have never got involved with bernie but then again he made him the man we all know now as joe strummer.

@hockeyrocks5757 Yes, Elgin Ave Breakdown was the OG and Elgin Ave Revisited was put out a few years ago. Should be easy to come by!!

I vaguely knew Joe - 'Woody' - around this time, he was a squatter in Elgin Avenue and I was a squatter in Euston ('Tolmers'), the 101ers were a squatters band really. I saw them a few times, once in a former bank in Tolmers Square which had been squatted. They did 'Junco Partner' and I was impressed cos, at the time, I didn't know anyone else who knew the song. Happy daze of sulphate, spliff 'n Special Brew. PS They were called 101er after Orwell's 1984 & 'Room 101' .

Isn't that a quintessential picture of Joe? Fantastic! Sums up, what I call his, Roots-Rock-Passion. Well done for putting up the right image with such a rootsy performance. God, why do you take the ones with so much soul?
