They just need to change a couple words to this and they could have an anthem for the current historical controversy over Native residential schools here in Canada.

" In 500 years of fighting, not one Indian turned white." No wonder he is smiling.! Thank you Johnny!

This is a song from the album "Bitter Tears" a matter of fact is that it's the first LP I bought ever, I think it was in 1968 or something.

"In 500 years of fighting, not one Indian turned white." As long as we love the old ways, the land, and are loyal to our ancestry - none ever will. We learned to use their methods to fight for our rights and I am glad that so many of us are #IdleNoMore #Idlenomore It's in the blood. Join us!

@nofx1607 Exactly the same emotions are stirred in me too. I'm a white man of Russian heritage living in Northern England. Oppression is a universal language of despair.

when I was about 5 yrs old my dad loaned this album from the library and taped it. I would cry my heart out listening to it, even though I have nothing to do with indians. It still gives me chills to listen to. I shall always remember my father by this song. Thank you for posting

I am indian. My family's land (a reserve) once was FULL of gold. Then the white man took it. Also there was a mountain my family had that had tons of copper in it. The white man was going to steal it but gladly they didn't. But my family has suffered alot. :( From bernzie717 cousin

A song like this makes me ask again- I have blood of both running in my veins. Yet I cry tears when I hear native music, when I see native pain, when I see new birth in spring, when I hear drums, when I play flute, when I make my beads. I hate what people do to the lands, the sky, the water. I hate what man does to other man. What about me? Who am I Who do I belong to?
