Okay, I have a story that beats all stories. I was about 18 and tripping on acid, and was picking my dad up at O'Hare Airport in Chicago. I laid down on my car in the remote lot and listened to this song; and watched the planes fly by overhead (don't recommend any of this for you kids out there). Such a good time with myself :) Oh, also BTW, lost my virginity in Bloomington, IN, John's hometown. John, thank you!!! BTW, my dad never knew... And this song stands up to time.

My fav line: "I'm always talking to myself, I guess i'm never alone." Can definitely relate to that one. Haha.

John Mellencamp managed to capture in song just what it was like to grow up in the Midwest; he was and still is awesome...

I thought of this song when John mentioned in an interview a year or so ago where he said his stuff from the 80's would be considered country music today, and to be honest I think he is right considering the harder rock and roll edge country has had the last 10-15 years. Just listening to this song now I can imagine it being a country hit today (maybe with a few country tweaks like a backround fiddle and maybe a steel guitar). He could have a country career and not have to record anything new.
