Today's Memory

*Happy Birthday, John McCormack!* :)*MY WILD IRISH ROSE*- Chauncey OlcottIf you listen I'll sing you a sweet little song Of a flower that's now drooped and dead, Yet dearer to me, yes than all of its mates, Though each holds aloft its proud head. Twas given to me by a girl that I know, Since we've met, faith, I've known no repose. She is dearer by far than the world's brightest star, And I call her my wild Irish Rose. My wild Irish Rose, the sweetest flower that grows. You may search everywhere, but none can compare with my wild Irish Rose. My wild Irish Rose, the dearest flower that grows, And some day for my sake, she may let me take the bloom from my wild Irish Rose. They may sing of their roses, which by other names, Would smell just as sweetly, they say. But I know that my Rose would never consent To have that sweet name taken away. Her glances are shy when e'er I pass by The bower where my true love grows, And my one wish has been that some day I may win The heart of my wild Irish Rose. My wild Irish Rose, the sweetest flower that grows. You may search everywhere, but none can compare with my wild Irish Rose. My wild Irish Rose, the dearest flower that grows, And some day for my sake, she may let me take the bloom from my wild Irish Rose.

Was there ever a singer to compare with Count John? Not that I've discovered!

Nice remarks, NoRosesForMe. Agree with them too. John McCormack is a wonderful singer and I've only just discovered him.

I used to drink Wild Irish Rose. I was about 14 or so. I'll never touch it again hahaha! But joking aside....this man made music that was listenable in a time when there wasnt much to listen to. His songs are not just crap for St Pat's day.Its not stereotypical. This man actually sang(!) in a trained, blessed voice. I am amazed whenever I hear him sing. And I am getting older and I am still learning how dear some people are to the world. If ony some people would just understand. Its real folks.

It's St. Patrick's Day, and what better day to listen to the greatest of Irish tenors, John McCormack, singing "My Wild Irish Rose."John McCormack - My Wild Irish Rose

An interesting comment. Not sure I agree. Regards, Geert, pianist.

Music has become sterile because everything has been done with music.

You're right. Actually, it's a pity music has become a kind of sterile.
