My wifes Aunt Mary sang this at our wedding. After 47 years together, I still feel that these words apply. I want to walk with my lovely wife through all eternity.

Thanks so much for uploading this. John McCormack was part of my growing up in Ireland in the 1950s and 1960s. It is so wonderful to listen to him here.

My mother too loved john. My grandmother was Irish, and I am proud of my Irish ancestry. I never knew her,but many of my defining features may well be derived from this link. A great joy to hear him again.

I remember listening to him so often on the old "steam" radio when I was a lad. Never have I forgotten him nor his wonderful singing.

Didn't know he was a Papal Count.........still, I won't hold that against him - his talent makes up for such a slight failing.

In many ways you're right! On the other hand, he seems to have represented a sort of Irish integrity which was very moving for anyone with an Irish connection. He has a particular dignity (nobility even) which is hard to define....

I doubt if they heard him live, they were in London. But I notice the song came out in 1940. I was born in 1942. As a young couple, my parents must have heard it on the radio in that era. It had become a big hit on the airwaves. When I was a boy, my mother sang it - and other things - around the house.
